The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing 48-year-old man who disappeared while boating on Lake Erie near Presque Isle.<\/p>\n
According to the Coast Guard, watch standers from Sector Eastern Great Lakes received a report at 7:39 a.m. Thursday regarding a 19-foot black and gray vessel with one person aboard who was not responding to phone calls.<\/p>\n
The search expanded throughout Thursday and into Friday as multiple U.S. and Canadian agencies worked together to locate the missing boater.<\/p>\n
Late Thursday, a Canadian environmental worker spotted a vessel matching the registration of the missing boat along the western shoreline of Long Point, Ontario.<\/p>\n
Coast Guard officials said crews searched approximately 2,756 square nautical miles over a total of 60 hours before the decision was made to suspend the operation.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuspending a search is one of the most difficult decisions we make,\u201d said Cmdr. Adam Mosley, a search and rescue mission coordinator assigned to Sector Eastern Great Lakes. \u201cOur crews searched continuously alongside our partner agencies, using every available resource in an extensive effort to locate the missing individual. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, loved ones and everyone affected during this incredibly difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

U.S. Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, which coordinated MQ-9 aerial support<\/p>\n
The search covered waters on both sides of the international border as responders utilized boats, helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, and unmanned aerial resources in an effort to locate the missing man.<\/p>\n
