Yeah, not too bad, but we’re not officially on the dry side until Sunday, so it’s not *** washout of *** weekend. This morning though, that fog does have some area, some mist associated with it, and that fog is slowly burning off. We’ll have *** few isolated pop-up showers today, especially from Allegheny County. On south and along Interstate 70 on south, uh, especially in the portions of Greene and Fayette County. Otherwise we dry out on Sunday and we are expecting to see more sunshine. Those clouds are going to be stubborn through the day today. Fog is slowly burning off here into Allegheny. Beaver extending into Butler all the way up into Venango, even Garrett County. You have some pretty thick fog there into the mountains this morning. 70 degrees right now in Pittsburgh 72 waking up in Greensburg in Indiana 68 currently in Cranberry and 71 in Washington and Waynesburg. So here’s the breakdown for today and tomorrow. Pop-up shower can’t even rule it out during, uh, the Pirates game. It doesn’t look like it’s going to be any rain delay. It doesn’t look like any severe storms. And then we’ll have that sunshine settling in as we head into Sunday. Lower humidity, temperatures in the mid 80s, Yasmin. Ashley, thank you. Well, breaking news, *** deadly crash in West Mifflin. Borough dispatchers confirm at least one person is dead and one person was taken to the hospital. Lebanon Church Road is closed from the county airport to MacArthur Drive, and Buttermilk Hollow Road is also closed from Pittsburgh McKeesport Boulevard to Lebanon Church. First responders are asking drivers to avoid the area and find different routes. Borough dispatchers tell us the area will likely be shut down for hours for accident reconstruction. We have reached out to Allegheny County Police to learn more about everyone involved in this crash and how it happened. And taking *** live look at the Parkway east outside of the Squirrel Hill tunnel, it is officially shut down in both directions as of last night around 11 o’clock. Along with the 25 day closure, detours using the Squirrel Hill Homestead exit and the Edgewood Swissville exit are now in place. So after years and months of planning and preparation, the Commercial Street bridge replacement project is underway. Reporter Jordan Sciopa shows us how drivers are going about navigating detours. Pirates fans who live east of the city had to think about how they were getting home Friday night. We’re taking 28 up to the turnpike to go all the way back down into Irwin and then go to Harrison City from there. John Cox and his family mapped out an alternate route back to Harrison City, knowing Parkway East would probably be closed by the time they left the North Shore. The closure won’t impact Cox’s daily routine, but members of his family will. to make adjustments. Some of the other family, they actually travel into town, actually work in town. Some of them actually are allowed to work from home. I go to school in Oakland, um, and I live in Greensburg, so I’m always commuting back and forth, so it’s going to be fun. The 25 day closure is between exits 74 and 77. Crews will work around the clock to replace the Commercial Street Bridge by using *** lateral slide in method. I’m going to ask Google the best way to get me home. I come into the Strip District every day for work, so I imagine it’s going to be new and exciting adventures and navigation as I make my way from Church Hill into the Strip. And Pend Do created this animation showing the process crews will use to slide that new 11,000 ton bridge into place over the next few weeks. Of course this method was chosen to get the job done in weeks instead of years. We’ve been answering your questions for days now. We found out how emergency services will deal with the closure. Allegheny County Emergency Service officials say *** plan is in place. They say first responders will use the detours, but they also have access to roads that are restricted to other drivers. Working with uh some of our utility partners or city of Pittsburgh partners, some of our regional partners, um, just evaluating some extreme case scenarios related to the fact that the bridge uh isn’t there at that time when these things impacted us, whether it was loss of electrical service, um, an impact to the water infrastructure, uh, storms. Local members of emergency services have been in training exercises for all kinds of scenarios, working with 911 operators, so they have updated information on detours and road changes. Penta does urge anyone who can work remotely to do so, but if you must go out, PRT is also urging you to use public transit to minimize congestion. They’re offering park and ride options similar to the NFL draft at these locations on the east side of the closure. Well, the state budget is 10 days overdue, but lawmakers are in Harrisburg working to finalize *** budget deal which could see its first votes today. Senate lawmakers held committee meetings yesterday advancing some legislation, but not *** budget bill just yet. They pushed forward the capital budget for construction projects, money for state-related universities, and other legislation that could be part of *** final budget deal like money for historically underfunded schools. But it’s still unclear whether legalizing, taxing, and regulating skill game machines would be part of the budget. Lawmakers have until this fall to act on that after *** recent Supreme Court ruling on the machines. Both the Senate and House will be in session through the weekend to get *** spending plan passed. *** bipartisan bill aimed at making housing more affordable took effect overnight, and even though President Donald Trump did not sign it. Our Washington correspondent Jackie DeFusco joins us live from the White House. Jackie, how significant is this new law? It has been the most significant housing bill in decades took effect just after midnight with *** little fanfare after President Trump decided not to sign the bill on Friday. The president abruptly canceled *** planned signing ceremony on Capitol Hill. That was the last. Month and then in the end decided not to act on the legislation ahead of *** midnight deadline. He said that was in protest over stalled voting reforms called the Save America Act in the Senate. Uh, he has also dismissed the housing legislation in the past as *** quote yawn even after it won broad bipartisan support in Congress. This law includes dozens of provisions that seeks to streamline federal regulations, speed up home building, and limit corporations from buying single family homes, to name *** few. The goal here is to address one of the central problems in the housing affordability crisis, the fact that there’s *** shortage of millions of homes, according to Dennis Shea with the Bipartisan Policy Center. No single piece of legislation coming out of Congress is going to solve the housing affordability challenge overnight. We got into this problem over many, many years, and to get out of the problem will require *** significant amount of time. He does expect that the new law will have *** meaningful impact in the end at lowering housing costs, but he says that will likely take years to come to fruition. He also said that this is going to take efforts at the state and local level from the private sector, not just from the federal government, to solve this problem. Hours earlier, his administration imposed new sanctions on the nation after attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz this week. President Trump also declared that the U.S.Iran ceasefire was over, but he’s saying that talks with Tehran will continue. *** Shayer man is accused of threatening to kill *** member of Congress. The DOJ claims Robert Halvacek identified himself as *** Nazi and white supremacist and detailed ideas on his YouTube of mass shootings, assassinations, and running people over with his truck, targeting Democrats, transgender people, and other minority groups. He could face years behind bars if convicted. Right now your time is 9:08 and the world’s largest steam engine is chugging through Western Pennsylvania. Big Boy 4014 will pass through Allegheny and Westmoreland counties, and there’s *** public viewing in Leedsdale today. Westmoreland reporter Ed Diorio shows us how the town is getting ready. The big boy steam locomotive will be here and not only is it going to be here, it’s going to stop here, and that is drawing close to 10,000 people to this small town. Everyone’s excited for this Saturday in Leedsdale. Super duper excited. 10 out of 10. Some came early to scope it out. We came down today to just to kind of look around, hopefully check out, maybe we could park for tomorrow to see the big boys stop. Dan Witt is one of an expected 8 to 10,000 people who are visiting Leedsdale to see the big boy. We’re gonna have some serious, you know, population coming into the, to the borough here, um, so we, we kicked it into overdrive. *** quarter mile stretch of Center Avenue and Ferry Street will be closed as the viewing area at the industrial park. EMS will be stationed throughout, but officials are asking people to be aware of the conditions. We’d ask that you know, you stay hydrated, you’re going to be on the asphalt, this whole area around us, there’s not *** lot of shade. With *** town almost multiplying its population by 10, the majority of the parking will be available at the industrial park businesses. If you do park in their parking spots, to please be cognizant of, you know, any trash, anything like that. Food trucks and activities will take place across the tracks and Ohio River Boulev. Boulevard at Henley Park. However, the tracks and the boulevard will not be closed during the day. Trying to get across any area over there is going to be very dangerous, so we recommend that you do not do that. Despite months of preparation, the little town is ready for the big visitor. The area of the industrial park Ferry Street to be specific, will be that primary viewing area, and the train’s expected to arrive between 6 and 7 p.m. tonight.
