A body was recovered from Lake Erie Saturday, July 11 in Berlin Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n
Police and the Lucas County Coroner’s Office are working to determine if the deceased is 30-year-old Jesus “Chewy” Sanchez of Monroe, who went missing July 3 while kayaking when a severe storm moved through the area.<\/p>\n
Previous Coverage: Search continues for missing Monroe kayaker, Jesus ‘Chewy’ Sanchez<\/a><\/p>\n At approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Monroe County Central Dispatch received a call from a boater in the area of the Pointe Mouillee State Game Area near the Banana Dikes. The caller reported observing what appeared to be a body floating in the water near the northernmost dike, approximately 15 feet from shore.<\/p>\n Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Berlin Township Fire Department and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources responded to the area.
