ELMIRA, NY (WENY) \u2014 An Elmira man is throwing his hat in the ring for a seat on Elmira City Council.<\/p>\n
On early Monday morning, Anthony Cantando announced his candidacy for the fourth district.<\/p>\n
That seat is currently held by Gary Brinn, whose term ends in 2027.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Cantando said, \u201cThe Elmira City Council has been working against our city\u2019s interests for far too long, and over the last four years, nobody has been a better representative of everything wrong with our city government than Gary Brinn. My district deserves better representation, and I\u2019m hoping to be that change.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the press release, Cantando is launching his campaign on three promises:<\/p>\n
Introduce legislation to restore the second public comment section to Elmira City Council Meetings<\/p>\n
Introduce legislation outright banning the construction of data centers within the city<\/p>\n
Look into every possible avenue to end the city\u2019s contract with FLOCK and remove all FLOCK cameras within the city<\/p>\n
