A man was arrested Friday on suspicion of a hit-and-run crash in the death of a 2-year-old<\/a> in southeast Erie in February.\n<\/p>\n

Seth Kirkegaard, 32, was charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, one count of careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury or death and one count of driving without insurance, according to online court records.\n<\/p>\n

Kirkegaard is being held in custody at the Weld County Jail on $50,000 bail, court records show. He was arrested Friday, following the nearly five-month investigation, according to an Erie Police Department post on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Police have been investigating the crash since Feb. 15, when a toddler was killed in a crash around 4:40 p.m. east of Mountain View Boulevard and north of Village Vista Drive. Someone saw the 2-year-old in the road while driving and called dispatch, but the driver of the vehicle that hit the toddler had left the scene, police said at the time.\n<\/p>\n

Investigators had reviewed surveillance footage, identified a vehicle of interest and asked the public for help to identifying another vehicle during the investigation.<\/p>\n

Emergency personnel had tried to save the child, but the child succumbed to its injuries.\n<\/p>\n

Police had called the driver\u2019s act of leaving the scene illegal and \u201cdeeply troubling\u201d and urged the driver to come forward.\n<\/p>\n

Kirkegaard did not turn himself in but knew he would be arrested, according to Erie police spokesperson Amber Luttrell.\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
