State police have arrested a Hallstead man and charged him with killing his uncle and two other men at his family\u2019s home in Great Bend Twp. in northern Susquehanna County on Monday.<\/p>\n
Police identified the accused as Garrett A. Johnson, 29. Johnson said \u201cI killed everyone I love\u201d as officers attempted to take him into custody, according to a criminal complaint filed by state police at Gibson.<\/p>\n
The three men Johnson allegedly shot and killed are Phillip Johnson, of Hallstead; Kevin Igo, of Susquehanna; and Frank Talarico Jr., of Binghamton, New York, police said in the complaint.<\/p>\n
Phillip Johnson was the uncle of Garrett Johnson, while Igo and Talarico were Garrett Johnson\u2019s friends, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
According to the criminal complaint and a state police news release:<\/p>\n
Police responded to 1208 Baptist Hill Road shortly after 6 p.m. Monday for a reported shooting. A caller told an emergency dispatcher that a shirtless man was standing in the middle of the road, screaming.<\/p>\n
Also, Adam Johnson, father of Garrett Johnson, told a dispatcher that he had three bodies at his residence and that Garrett Johnson had been running down the street with an AR-15-style rifle. Adam Johnson said he was able to confront his son and gain control of the weapon.<\/p>\n
Responding troopers saw a man later identified as Garrett Johnson running down Baptist Hill Road toward a police cruiser. Garrett Johnson jumped onto the hood of a police vehicle, then resisted arrest as troopers tried to take him into custody.<\/p>\n
Garrett Johnson continued to resist after police deployed a Taser in an attempt to subdue him. Police summoned EMS personnel to the scene to sedate him.<\/p>\n
After gaining control of Garrett Johnson, police went to the Johnson residence and found the three victims, deceased with gunshot wounds. Two victims were found on a rear porch, while the third victim was found on the lawn near the porch.<\/p>\n
Troopers conducted interviews with Garrett Johnson\u2019s parents, Adam and Nancy Johnson. Both said Garrett Johnson had dropped off his vehicle at a local garage on Monday for an inspection. They said they drove to the garage at about 5 p.m. to retrieve their son\u2019s vehicle, and Adam Johnson then drove it home while Nancy Johnson followed.<\/p>\n
Adam Johnson said that when he turned onto Baptist Hill Road, he saw his son in the middle of the roadway, acting erratically, not wearing a shirt or shoes, screaming and not making any sense. Garrett Johnson struck the trunk of the vehicle and continued screaming, his father said.<\/p>\n
Adam and Nancy Johnson told police that their son struck each of them with a closed fist after they got out of their vehicles and tried to talk to him. They then drove to their home, where they found the bodies of the victims. Phillip Johnson was Adam Johnson\u2019s brother.<\/p>\n
Police attempted to interview Garrett Johnson. He said he already knew he was (expletive) and invoked his right to counsel, ending the interview, police said in the complaint.<\/p>\n
Police charged Garrett Johnson with three counts of criminal homicide, three felony counts of recklessly endangering another person, two misdemeanor counts of simple assault and one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.<\/p>\n
He was arraigned Tuesday morning and sent to Lackawanna County Prison, without bail. The Susquehanna County Jail closed last year.<\/p>\n
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 20 before Magisterial District Judge Jodi L. Cordner.<\/p>\n
