An Olyphant woman faces an endangerment charge after her 1-year-old son ate part of a marijuana gummy in her home and was rushed to the hospital, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Olyphant police and ambulance services responded to Tylise Perez\u2019s Susquehanna Avenue residence at about 5:30 p.m. on July 3, for the report of a 1-year-old believed to have ingested some of his mother\u2019s Four Loko alcoholic beverage.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, they found the child\u2019s grandmother assisting him to the waiting ambulance.<\/p>\n
Perez, 22, told police her son became very drowsy, was shaking and acting weird. She feared he drank some of her open Four Loko.<\/p>\n
Paramedics believed the 1-year-old was having a seizure and noted he had an elevated heart rate. They immediately transported him to Lehigh Valley Dickson City Hospital.<\/p>\n
According to the criminal complaint, the attending paramedic told police that, on the way to the hospital, Perez said her son might have eaten a portion of a THC edible she had in her bedroom.<\/p>\n
A physician at the hospital told officers that the child\u2019s condition made it necessary for him to be flown to Cedar Crest Hospital, Allentown, by helicopter.<\/p>\n
When officers spoke with Perez, she first repeated she believed her son drank some of her Four Loko, but then admitted he may have eaten part of a THC edible she had purchased from a gas station.<\/p>\n
Medical records indicated the 1-year-old suffered a cannabis overdose. Perez allegedly told hospital staff her son had ingested a\u00a0 \u201cpink lemonade burst\u201d live resin THC gummy around 5 p.m., about 48 minutes before she called 911.<\/p>\n
During a search of Perez\u2019s apartment, officers found 12 packages of full and open synthetic cannabis products, along with a plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana residue, from a nightstand next to Perez\u2019s bed.<\/p>\n
A review of the hospital\u2019s initial report to Child Line described the incident as a \u201cnear fatality.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 1-year-old was discharged from the hospital on July 5 and Lackawanna County Office of Youth and Family services transferred his custody to his grandmother.<\/p>\n
