AMITY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — It’s a special day by the Manatawny Creek as a bridge was dedicated to a fallen soldier.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
State Rep. Mark Gillen spoke at the unveiling, stating, “This is an opportunity for us to reflect on valor, on a very special life. And this life was not lost in vain.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Travis Zimmerman, who was killed in action on April 22, 2006, while serving his country in Iraq, will have his name remembered forever, in a permanent etching on a bridge dedicated in his honor.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gillen additionally shared, “He served his country with honor, pride, and loyalty and made the greatest of all sacrifices in defense of the cause of freedom.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The bridge near the intersection of Route 562 and Trumbore Lane is now named the PFC Travis C. Zimmerman Memorial Bridge. It holds a special place in the hearts of his loved ones.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Zimmerman was a graduate of Boyertown Area High School. He was posthumously promoted to private first class and awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. To his mother, he was the best thing ever.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
His mother shared with 69News, “He was the best son a mother could have. He was unselfish, and he gave his life for this country.”<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
State Rep. Gillen says the bridge is an opportunity to remember the price we pay for freedom.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We thank heaven that there are soldiers who are willing to lay down their lives even as we stand here in defense of freedom,” Gillen said.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
