{"id":245050,"date":"2026-07-16T17:48:20","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T17:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/245050\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T17:48:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T17:48:20","slug":"pittsburgh-police-mourns-loss-of-equine-officer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/245050\/","title":{"rendered":"Pittsburgh Police mourns loss of equine officer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police have announced the death of one of its equine officers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpirit\u201d, the horse, passed after suffering an inoperable bone fracture.<\/p>\n<p>Spirit joined the police in 2017 as the second horse to join the relaunched Mounted Unit.<\/p>\n<p>Donated to the department by former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Stephon Tuitt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpirit was a \u2018people person horse\u2019 from his first day on the job,\u201d Police said on a social media post. \u201cHe enjoyed countless school visits, parades, and events, building bridges between our police officers and the communities they serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpirit was our gentle giant.
