ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Allentown Planning Commission will meet in City Council chambers to consider plans to convert a vacant warehouse on West Emaus Avenue into a data center.<\/p>\n
The proposal would transform the existing 224,000 square-foot warehouse and add a more than 23,000 square-foot addition to the property.<\/p>\n
Applicants and members of the community will speak at Thursday’s meeting.<\/p>\n
While some residents have voiced concerns about the proposal, Mayor Matt Tuerk says the planning commission is required to review the application based on state code and the city’s current regulations.<\/p>\n
“They review it against the law, whether its a zoning hearing board, or a planning commission, as a body their job is to check it against the law, and they do a really good job at that,” Tuerk said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The applicant listed on the agenda is\u00a0Quantm Group LLC. The planning commission is also considering potential changes to the city’s data center ordinance.<\/p>\n
But those changes won’t effect this proposal, as this request was submitted before the potential changes.<\/p>\n
According to Mayor Tuerk, it is unlikely for the planning commission to make any decisions Thursday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n
