{"id":245265,"date":"2026-07-16T22:03:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T22:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/245265\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T22:03:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T22:03:07","slug":"very-unhealthy-air-quality-due-to-wildfire-smoke-expected-across-pennsylvania-on-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/245265\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Very unhealthy&#8221; air quality due to wildfire smoke expected across Pennsylvania on Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/pennsylvania-code-red-air-quality-wildfire-smoke\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pennsylvania<\/a>\u00a0will be under a Code Purple air quality alert on Friday due to wildfire smoke from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/wildfires-smoke-millions-exposed-midwest-northeast-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Canada and Minnesota<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a news release on Thursday, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said Friday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/pennsylvania-code-red-air-quality-wildfire-smoke\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">air quality<\/a> will be &#8220;very unhealthy.&#8221; The state DEP said during a Code Purple, people should avoid long or intense outdoor activities, while sensitive groups \u2014 including children, elderly residents, and those with respiratory illnesses \u2014   should avoid being outdoors at any point.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/wildfire-smoke-and-poor-air-quality-expected-on-thursday-in-pittsburgh-first-alert-weather\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">air quality<\/a>\u00a0across the state has been deteriorating since Thursday afternoon, with parts of northwestern Pennsylvania, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/maps-wildfire-smoke-air-quality-pittsburgh\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Allegheny County<\/a>, in the Code Maroon range. On the Air Quality Index Guide, Maroon is the highest level because air quality is &#8220;hazardous.&#8221; Officials said everyone is more likely to be affected by the pollution in Maroon-level areas. \u00a0  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this time, the health department recommends no outdoor activities this evening and potentially tomorrow,&#8221; Allegheny County said in a news release on Thursday afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The smoky conditions are expected to move out of the area on Saturday, but air quality is expected to be worse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/bad-air-quality-philadelphia-canadian-wildfire-smoke\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statewide<\/a>\u00a0on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All residents are encouraged to move activities indoors,&#8221; the state DEP said on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania was last impacted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/code-red-unhealthy-air-quality-wildfire-smoke-pennsylvania-friday\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">major wildfire smoke<\/a>\u00a0in June 2023.
