More than half of Pennsylvania voters in a new poll want Sen.\u00a0John Fetterman\u00a0(D-Pa.) to leave\u00a0the\u00a0Democratic\u00a0Party.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fetterman’s approval rating, at 48 percent, was above water in\u00a0Quinnipiac University\u00a0data<\/a>.\u00a0But\u00a052 percent of respondents said\u00a0they’d\u00a0like to see him depart the party amid speculation that Republicans\u00a0have been wooing<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0famously centrist Democrat.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0share of voters who want him to switch sides includes 57 percent of Democrats, 55 percent of Republicans and 46 percent of independents.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The\u00a0Democrats would like to show him\u00a0the\u00a0door.\u00a0The\u00a0Republicans\u00a0seem to be\u00a0welcoming him in. Thus is\u00a0the\u00a0political irony of Senator John Fetterman,” Quinnipiac University polling analyst\u00a0Tim Malloy\u00a0said in a release.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since winning\u00a0the\u00a0Senate seat long held by Republican Sen.\u00a0Pat Toomey\u00a0(Pa.) back in 2022, Fetterman has often voted with Republicans\u00a0on\u00a0Capitol Hill and\u00a0has been critical<\/a>\u00a0of his party at points.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

But\u00a0he\u00a0has\u00a0rejected speculation<\/a>\u00a0that he’s planning to leave the Democratic tent.<\/p>\n

“I’d be a terrible Republican who still votes overwhelmingly with Democrats,” he\u00a0wrote in an op-ed<\/a> for The Washington Post in May.<\/p>\n

He told NewsNation in March that his popularity among Republicans was “confusing.”<\/a><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, he said he has “no plans”<\/a> to change his party affiliation, though he acknowledged that he could one day be pushed over the line.<\/p>\n

“If our party ever becomes \u2014 and just makes it official \u2014 the anti-Israel party, that’s when I would leave because that’s been a moral clarity for me,” he said during an interview at the Hill Nation Summit in Washington.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0the\u00a0Quinnipiac polling found Democrat Pennsylvania Gov.\u00a0Josh Shapiro\u00a0with a 13-point advantage over Republican challenger\u00a0Stacy Garrity\u00a0in this year’s midterm race, a narrowing of\u00a0the\u00a0race since\u00a0the\u00a0incumbent held an 18-point lead in February.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Still\u00a0one of\u00a0the\u00a0country’s most popular governors, Josh Shapiro\u00a0benefits by\u00a0his opponent Stacy Garrity’s greatest obstacle: people don’t know much about her,” Malloy said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

More than half of voters in the poll, 56 percent, said they approved of the way Shapiro is handling his job as governor, compared to 34 percent who disapproved.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President Trump’s approval rating in Pennsylvania was 19 points underwater, with just 39 percent feeling satisfied with his job handling and 58 percent disapproving.<\/p>\n

Conducted July 9-13,\u00a0the\u00a0poll surveyed 895 registered Pennsylvania voters and had a margin of error of 4.3 percentage points.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
