SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 Pennsylvania American Water crews continued working Saturday to repair a major water main break in downtown Scranton, with specialized equipment expected to help overcome challenges that have slowed the repair effort.<\/p>\n
Crews and contractors remain at the site near the intersection of North Washington Avenue and Mulberry Street, where they are continuing to excavate around the damaged water main.<\/p>\n
The utility said specialized equipment is expected to arrive Saturday morning to better isolate the break and reduce the number of customers affected while repairs are underway. The work will also include replacing valves in the area, which officials say is necessary before the damaged main can be repaired.<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania American Water expects repair work to continue throughout Saturday and could extend into Sunday.<\/p>\n
Customers in the affected area may continue to experience low water pressure, no water service or discolored water until the repairs are completed.<\/p>\n
Water tankers remain available<\/p>\n
Potable water tankers remain available at two locations for customers affected by the outage:<\/p>\n
North Washington Avenue between Mulberry and Linden streetsScranton Fire Department on Mulberry Street<\/p>\n
Customers are asked to bring their own containers when collecting drinking water.<\/p>\n
The water main break has also continued to affect traffic and some downtown businesses as crews work to restore service. Pennsylvania American Water is asking motorists and pedestrians to avoid the work zone whenever possible to allow crews to safely complete the repairs.<\/p>\n
