Cognetti rescued Scranton from distressed status<\/p>\n
Editor: In January of 1992, after years of mismanagement and debt, Scranton City Council voted to enter distressed city status. Scranton remained there for 30 years. When the people voted for Paige Cognetti in a 2019 special mayoral election, they were about to bring that era to an end.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cognetti led the charge to bring Scranton back from the edge of a financial cliff, and in 2022 the city emerged from its decades-long distressed financial status. Through her leadership, Scranton\u2019s bond status was raised from junk bond to A-, saving taxpayers money. She did what her predecessors could not, or would not do \u2014 tackle the chronic issues that plagued Scranton. Now, Mayor Cognetti is bringing her can-do attitude to Congress.<\/p>\n
She recently introduced her first policy agenda, a plan to fight corruption in Washington. Her ability to govern, implementing transparency, reform and accountability is just what we need in Washington, D.C., to lower costs for working families by reforming government and holding those who waste taxpayers\u2019 dollars accountable. Paige will fight for the citizens, not the wealthy, who are only looking out for their own self- interests.<\/p>\n
