Well, we took that question directly to Pendant John Miller, who is Pendant’s assistant district executive for construction. And is actually overseeing this entire massive project, says all of the concrete and rebar are being recycled to be used in the future. I think the concrete debris being hauled to Oakmont area where it’s going to be crushed and then recycled and all the rebar, as, as Jason mentioned, as they’re crushing it, they’re able to pull the rebar out and that’ll be sent out to *** scrap yard to be recycled again. Pretty cool stuff. As for that timeline of all of this again, Pendot says things getting cleaned up is their top priority so that they can uncover the sliding tracks and the new piers and the foundations for the new bridge that were already built on that site. Our staff immediately field-viewed and verified that the correct maintenance and protection of traffic are in place (road closure and detour signage). We have also continued to report the road closure,” PennDOT told Action News 4 via email. PennDOT continued, saying, “Though we do not have the direct ability to address it, we have been working to report the closure to the company.”Christina Cerkevich, Chair of Swisshelm Forward in Swisshelm Park, told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 Saturday afternoon that the GPS issue has caused a large buildup of traffic in the area, with some drivers driving past the detour signage. “It’s causing a lot of traffic backups; they’re driving either between the road closed signs or just around in the neighborhood,” Cerkevich said. “We’re having a lot of issues with lost people doing dangerous things, turning around, speeding, going the wrong way on one-way roads, turning around in front of people’s driveways, not yielding to pedestrians.”Cerkevich said they reached out to PennDOT about the issue impacting Apple Maps, also saying it appears Commercial Street is listed as open on the transportation department’s website, 511PA. “We emailed PennDOT yesterday, and again this morning. All they have said is that they have let Apple Maps know there is a problem, but they didn’t address the 511PA issue, which, again, is their preferred system,” she said. She told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that an officer or additional personnel is supposed to be in the area to help direct traffic. Although that’s the case, they are not on the detour route 24\/7.
