JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) \u2014 A grant to help improve the Johnstown community has been awarded as part of National Pennsylvania Day, Visit Johnstown announced Friday.<\/p>\n
The $5,000 grant from America250PA and EQT Corporation with PennDOT and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, will be used to clean up and improve the area around the Johnstown Train Station along Walnut Street, as well as the viewing platform.<\/p>\n
“We are one of seven grant awardees in the state, which validates the importance of the train station as a cultural and historic landmark,”\u00a0Lisa Rager, Visit Johnstown’s Executive Director, said.<\/p>\n
Following the interest in seeing Union Pacific’s Big Boy 4014 that made its way through the area last week, Visit Johnstown believes it shows just how much interest there is in railroading, and that could attract more visitors for railroad-related activities. Emphasising the importance of projects such as the cleanup of the Johnstown Train Station for not only locals but also visitors.<\/p>\n
As part of “Pennsylvania Day” observed on Monday, July 20, volunteers will be out completing the clean-up work, alongside the Train Station Capture Team.<\/p>\n
The grant is part of a larger $32,500 funding that supports seven projects, including community cleanups, park improvements, murals, graffiti cleanup, and others to improve their community through America250PA.<\/p>\n
