AmeriMasala brought together cultures, traditions, and communities from across Erie.<\/p>\n
Cultures from around the world went all out in downtown Erie as the 2026 AmeriMasala festival kicked off on State Street, led by a New Orleans-style brass band that set the tone for the parade.<\/p>\n
From there, the procession moved toward Perry Square, growing louder and more colorful along the way.<\/p>\n
Organizers say this year’s turnout shows how far AmeriMasala has come and how powerful it can be when cultures share the same space.<\/p>\n
“We have to make a conscious effort to acknowledge each other’s humanity. Gathering here and recognizing one another as human beings is a big sign of respect,” said Lyn Johnson, founder and organizer of AmeriMasala.<\/p>\n
Performers represented Indian, East Asian, West African, and many other cultures from around the world, sharing their traditions, rhythms, and movements. The event transformed Perry Square into a living showcase of Erie’s cultural diversity.<\/p>\n
People told us the blend of traditions made the event feel welcoming \u2014 a place where every community could feel seen and appreciated.<\/p>\n
“Respecting each other and learning from one another will bring peace to the country and to the world,” attendee Jessica Lopez said.<\/p>\n
As AmeriMasala celebrates in Perry Square, its message remains clear: every culture, every tradition, and every voice woven together in one celebration of Erie’s shared humanity.<\/p>\n
