Pennsylvania American Water issued a boil-water advisory Sunday morning for customers in parts of Scranton due to a water main break near the intersection of North Washington Avenue and Mulberry Street.<\/p>\n
Susan Turcmanovich, external affairs manager for Pennsylvania American Water, said in a news release that about 620 customers are being impacted.<\/p>\n
As of around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, repairs were underway and expected to take approximately 12 hours to complete, Turcmanovich said.<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania American Water experienced a loss in positive water pressure Sunday due to the water main break, which can potentially allow contamination to enter the distribution system through backflow by back-pressure or back-siphonage, Turcmanovich said.<\/p>\n
To safely consume water during the advisory, customers should bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and cool before using, or use bottled water, PAW officials said. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice, officials added.<\/p>\n
