BETHLEHEM, Pa. \u2014 World Cup fans filled the lawn at Bethlehem’s SteelStacks hours before the final match kicked off, with some cheering for Argentina and others supporting Spain.<\/p>\n
“Let’s go Spain!”<\/p>\n
Richard Geedey had a front-row seat on the lawn to watch the finals. Just days earlier, on July 4th, he and his son were even closer to the action, watching France face off against Paraguay in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
“And just the energy, the crowd, the partying, the singing in the stands, the chanting. I was sitting next to a student from China, and then I had two guys sitting on the other side who were up from Colombia. And just everybody coming together, loving the game, and it was a good time,” Geedey said.<\/p>\n
We also spoke with Curt Mosel, Chief Operating Officer of ArtsQuest, who says the World Cup has provided a big boost to SteelStacks after hosting 104 watch parties.<\/p>\n
“We’ve had about 40,000 people over the whole run, so that’s a pretty good number. It’s definitely been a good spike for us this summer. And yeah, the atmosphere has just been really lively,” Mosel said.<\/p>\n
Throughout the tournament, visitors could be seen playing soccer, shopping for their favorite jerseys, and getting the chance to experience what it’s like to lift the World Cup trophy.<\/p>\n
“I think it is good for the community because we’re all connecting in one single sport. And soccer is like a really good way to communicate with each other. And the vendors, like a lot of people are buying stuff, obviously, like food and merchandise… so they could probably make a lot of profit from it,” one fan said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
