The City of Erie is opening three cooling centers as high temperatures move into the area this week, officials announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The cooling centers will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, through Thursday, July 2.<\/p>\n
They will be located at Perry Square, Wayne Park near 1001 Atkins St. and Gridley Park at 598 Liberty St.<\/p>\n
City officials said the dates and hours may change depending on the weather and community need.<\/p>\n
The cooling centers are available for anyone who needs relief from the heat, including people without air conditioning.<\/p>\n
The city is also accepting donations of water bottles and electrolyte packets at the cooling center locations. Volunteers are also welcome.<\/p>\n
Mayor Daria S. Devlin encouraged residents to use the cooling centers, check on neighbors, donate supplies or volunteer if they are able.<\/p>\n
City officials are reminding people to limit time outside during the hottest part of the day, drink water, wear lightweight clothing and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.<\/p>\n
Residents should also check on older adults, people who live alone and others who may need help.<\/p>\n
