Paving crews are hard at work in Scranton as they’re smoothing over the last of the lingering damage from last week’s water main break along North Washington Avenue and Mulberry Street.<\/p>\n
The intersection is still shut down to traffic, leaving those who need to head into the city to park a little farther away.<\/p>\n
Water rushed through the intersection after a water main break opened up on Thursday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania American Water believes a six-inch main broke off a 24-inch transmission line.<\/p>\n
Crews worked nonstop throughout the weekend to try to fix it.<\/p>\n
Even as hundreds of fans descended on downtown for the FIFA Fan Zone.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Shutting down businesses along that stretch and leaving nearby residents in the Mulberry Apartments without water for days.<\/p>\n
“Things happen. It couldn’t be helped, but they straightened it out now. But it was rough for a couple of days without water,” said Charles Johnson, Scranton.<\/p>\n
Residents took advantage of the water tankers brought in by the utility company as crews worked on the repairs throughout the weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We had to make a few extra trips to the water truck to make sure we could flush the water and have fresh portable water. We had enough cases of water, so we weren’t as worried as most people were,” said Joshua Carter, Scranton.<\/p>\n
Residents say the water is now back on, but a boil advisory is still in place<\/p>\n
“Water came on last night, and that’s ok now, but It’s just not hot. It has to get hot again,” said Johnson.<\/p>\n
“It has some murkiness to it, but we’re getting by with it. We’re washing the dishes at least so we can get them out of the sink, and then we’ll rewash them,” said Carter.<\/p>\n
