LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE\/WYOU) \u2014 Voters are hitting the polls for Election Day 2025, and 28\/22 News is following many key races in our area. Voters are casting ballots on everything from mayors, council members, and commissioners.<\/p>\n

In the race for Scranton Mayor, the Incumbent Democrat, Paige Cognetti, is also saying she will run for Congress.<\/p>\n

28\/22 News Reporter Andy Mehalshick was at Scranton High School, which is one of the largest polling places in the city of Scranton.<\/p>\n

Voter turnout is around 30%, which is par for the course for off-year local elections, and voters tell 28\/22 News the Scranton Mayoral Race is front and center for them.<\/p>\n

Incumbent Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti, a democrat, is seeking a second term. She is facing Republican Patricia Beynon, and Independent candidates Gene Barrett and Rik Little.<\/p>\n

Voters tell 28\/22 News they want to make sure their voices are heard.<\/p>\n

\u201cLocal elections, do you think in general, do you think people don\u2019t pay attention that really impact your life?\u201d Mehalshick asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbsolutely. This is very important and Scranton Mayor race, for sure. Done. I did, I voted!\u201d Scranton resident Carol Deininger exclaimed.<\/p>\n

The polls close on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m., and election officials say they usually see many voters come after they get off work.<\/p>\n
