{"id":248305,"date":"2026-07-21T07:40:15","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T07:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/248305\/"},"modified":"2026-07-21T07:40:15","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T07:40:15","slug":"water-main-break-forces-businesses-to-adjust-in-downtown-scranton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/248305\/","title":{"rendered":"Water main break forces businesses to adjust in downtown Scranton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SCRANTON, Pa. \u2014 Repair crews have been on the scene since Thursday, when a water main broke in downtown\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnep.com\/section\/lackawanna-county\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Scranton<\/a> at the intersection of North Washington Ave. and Mulberry Street.<\/p>\n<p>Days later, on Saturday, nearby businesses have been feeling the impact.<\/p>\n<p>Three Tiers Bakery decided to remain closed all day Friday because of the sudden loss of water pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Their top priority: safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just decided to leave the store closed for the safety of our customers and our employees,\u201d says Genesis Vega of Three Tiers Bakery.<\/p>\n<p>Events like the world cup fan zone a block away on courthouse square still brought big crowds to downtown, but now with even more road closures. Those attending had to park up to three or four blocks away.<\/p>\n<p>                                            &#13;<br \/>\n                                                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wnep.com\/assets\/shared-images\/icons\/arrow-circle-down.svg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>                                            &#13;<br \/>\n                                                This story continues below.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the crowds, Three-Tiers Bakery decided to close early on Saturday at 3 pm instead of 7:30 pm.<\/p>\n<p>Even though they had planned to extend their hours and menu to 10 pm for the busy weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had it as a special for this weekend, and now we unfortunately won&#8217;t be able to do it because we have to close early,\u201d says Vega.<\/p>\n<p>The main break left some businesses with dirty water and low pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Floriana Adragna of Spin &amp; Savory says it was \u201cdefinitely a slow couple of days\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Right across from where construction crews were working, Spin &amp; Savory found themselves with murky water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo make our dough and stuff, we had to actually go and buy water jugs because the water was not usable\u201d, says Adragna.<\/p>\n<p>Owners also decided to close early.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, no one can get in here.
