Philadelphia officials are calling the FIFA World Cup and the events surrounding the city’s six matches a success, citing strong attendance, hotel demand and international visibility.<\/p>\n
Crews continued dismantling the FIFA Fan Fest site as city and state leaders shared new figures from the event.<\/p>\n
According to officials, the FIFA Fan Fest at Lemon Hill drew an estimated 575,000 visitors during its 39-day run, setting a single-day record among U.S. host cities.<\/p>\n
“This was a terrific success, and it far outpaced many of the other U.S. host cities,” said Meg Kane, CEO of Philly Soccer 2026.<\/p>\n
The attendance figures also drew praise from Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.<\/p>\n
“The one in Philly set a record, and it was free,” Shapiro said.<\/p>\n
Hotels also experienced increased demand during the World Cup events. Officials said hotel occupancy reached 90% during the July 4 weekend, when the Round of 16 match was played. Hotel revenue increased by 50%, according to officials.<\/p>\n
Kane said the benefits extended beyond the tournament itself.<\/p>\n
“Hosting the FIFA World Cup was not just a 39-day endeavor with a singular goal. It was about elevating Philly on the global stage,” she said.<\/p>\n
While officials highlighted the economic benefits of the event, they also said the tournament demonstrated Philadelphia’s ability to host major international events.<\/p>\n
The influx of visitors, however, also led to increased parking enforcement, particularly near Lemon Hill and the Sports Complex in South Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
Officials said 14,635 parking tickets were issued during the events, totaling about $600,000. More than 1,000 vehicles were also towed.<\/p>\n
Residents near Lemon Hill said the enforcement numbers were not surprising.<\/p>\n
“There probably should have been more,” said Susan Thornton of Fairmount. “People were parking everywhere here,” she said.<\/p>\n
Officials had originally projected a $770 million economic impact for the region from FIFA-related activities.
