{"id":249080,"date":"2026-07-22T05:20:24","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T05:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/249080\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T05:20:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T05:20:24","slug":"yeadon-teen-charged-as-an-adult-in-darby-gunfire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/249080\/","title":{"rendered":"Yeadon teen charged as an adult in Darby gunfire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Yeadon teen has been charged with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.delcotimes.com\/2026\/07\/11\/investigation-into-shots-fired-in-darby-continues\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">attempting to shoot four people<\/a> in Darby over a turf dispute.<\/p>\n<p>Khalif Mateen, 17, of the 1200 block of Alfred Drive was taken into custody Monday afternoon and charged with attempted homicide and firearms offenses.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Khalif Mateen (COURTESY OF POLICE)\" width=\"1296\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/DTD-L-MATEEN-0722.jpg\" data-attachment-id=\"1849419\" \/>Khalif Mateen (COURTESY OF POLICE)<\/p>\n<p>Darby Police Chief Joseph Gabe said Mateen has a history of gun violence in the Darby area.<\/p>\n<p>According to the criminal complaint filed by Detective Anthony Salvatore:<\/p>\n<p>On July 5 about 10 p.m., police and medics were dispatched to the unit block of South Fifth Street for a gunshot victim.<\/p>\n<p>Police found eight shell casings in the street. The victim told police a male, later identified as Mateen, walked up to him and his three cousins as they were in front of a smoke shop in the 400 block of Main Street.<\/p>\n<p>Mateen asked where they were from, what block, they claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Mateen then walked away and was pacing around, the victim said. As the four were leaving, Mateen started shooting at them. They fled for their safety.<\/p>\n<p>No one was struck.<\/p>\n<p>Review of surveillance video in the area captured a clear view of the shooter\u2019s face, who police identified as Mateen.<\/p>\n<p>Mateen has been adjudicated for robbery and possession of a firearm in a prior case, and in the attempted shooting, police have charged him as an adult.<\/p>\n<p>Mateen was arraigned and his bail was set at 10% of $1.5 million. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility. Additional court details were not yet available.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.delcotimes.com\/2026\/07\/16\/juvenile-charged-with-attempted-murder-in-darby-shooting\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mateen was the second juvenile arrested in a week on gun violence charges in Darby.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The recent incidents were only a block apart.
