OBITUARY

Ida Mae Strickland, 91, peacefully departed this earth on July 20, 2026.

Ida Mae was born on March 9, 1935 to Vera Mae Oakley Packer and Ralph Edward Packer in Nicholson, PA. She was a graduate of Nicholson High School and the Temple School of Nursing. In 1956, she married Bill Strickland and settled into a home on Greenwood Street in Hop Bottom, where Ida took on the role of homemaker.

Ida was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She loved attending her son’s baseball and softball games and could often be found in the stands. One of her great joys in life was time spent with her husband and family at Rainbow Shores campground along Lake Ontario. They enjoyed many years there with close friends and family. Ida was known for keeping a sparkling clean house and always having an ice-cold pitcher of unsweetened ice tea in the refrigerator.

Despite never practicing as a nurse, Ida’s consummate role in life was that of a caretaker. She cared for her mother for many years until her death at the age of 99, cared for her husband until his passing in 2021, and deeply cared for her children.

Ida is survived by her three children, Claudia (William) Lopatofsky, Brad (Penny) Strickland, and William (Michele) Strickland, and eight grandchildren: Michael (Jessica) Lopatofsky, Erica (John) Kryst, Lisa (David) Schaffer, William (Tara) Lopatofsky, Cassidy (Brian) Robinson, Jessica (Cameron) Hollister, Maura Strickland, and Paige Strickland. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.

Ida was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Bill Strickland, and sister, Marjorie Inderlied.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 23rd, at 4pm in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson. Friends may call from 2pm until service time. Interment will follow in the Nicholson Cemetery.

As a final note, the family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Forest City Personal Care for loving Ida as if she was their own.
