“We will have completed this project and opened the Parkway in less than three weeks,” Carroll said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Carroll said that crews will continue working around the clock and that he looks forward to the bridge being opened “as soon as possible.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
PennDOT District 11 Executive Jason Zang said that crews are “rapidly continuing” the work that needs done in order to have the bridge ready to open by next week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Earlier this week, PennDOT announced that\u00a0things were on track for an early opening<\/a>, just over 24 hours after crews began sliding the new 22-million pound <\/a>bridge into place. The bridge was fully moved into place Monday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Parkway East has been closed between the Edgewood\/Swissvale and Squirrel Hill interchanges so crews could\u00a0demolish the bridge<\/a>, which was completed on July 16.\u00a0<\/p>\n The new Commercial Street Bridge along the Parkway East has been moved into place after crews demolished the former bridge last week.<\/p>\n KDKA Drone Team<\/p>\n The closure was initially expected to last 25 days<\/a>, with a tentative reopening date of August 3.<\/p>\n While the closure is in effect,\u00a0traffic is being detoured<\/a>\u00a0through multiple routes, and so far, the\u00a0traffic impacts<\/a>\u00a0have remained at a minimum. The closure impacts a section of the Parkway that sees about 100,000 cars a day<\/a>.<\/p>\n As for Commercial Street, that is not expected to open early.
