It is a policy that is \u201cboth expensive and rarely used.\u201d The county\u2019s insurance broker said that \u201crising insurance rates overall, increased payroll costs, market conditions and claims histories likely factored in the company\u2019s decision to no longer offer the policy.\u201d But the decision has \u201cleft the county scrambling for alternatives.\u201d Tan notes the county had two options: purchase a \u201cnew &#8212; and possibly even more expensive &#8212; insurance policy from a different carrier\u201d or \u201cgive up the insurance policy and self-insure any future stadium claims against sheriff\u2019s deputies.\u201d She notes the county administration \u201cintends to do the latter.\u201d The decision to self-insure is among the \u201cmost consequential\u201d in a new stadium security agreement reached with the Bills.
