A Bald Eagle that spent five months recovering from injuries and lead poisoning was returned to the wild Wednesday morning during a public release event at Erie Bluffs State Park.<\/p>\n
Tamarack Wildlife Center, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, released the adult male Bald Eagle at 10:30 a.m.<\/p>\n
The eagle, identified as Patient 26-59, was admitted to Tamarack Wildlife Center in February after suffering multiple wounds and moderate levels of lead toxicity. During its rehabilitation, the bird received daily wound care for injuries to its head, hip and chest, along with nutritional support, anti-inflammatory medications, pain management and other treatments.<\/p>\n
According to Tamarack Wildlife Center, the eagle displayed a calm and steady demeanor throughout the recovery process. In recent months, the bird shared rehabilitation space with a young fledgling eagle admitted in June and an adult female eagle admitted in April, serving as a reassuring companion for the younger bird.<\/p>\n
After a successful recovery, wildlife rehabilitators stated that the eagle was healthy enough to return to its natural habitat.<\/p>\n
Tamarack Wildlife Center noted that caring for an eagle can be costly, averaging between $1,000 and $3,000 during the first month of treatment and approximately $1,000 per month afterward.<\/p>\n
The center, a nonprofit organization, receives no federal or state funding for operational expenses related to wildlife care and relies on donations from individuals and organizations to support its mission.<\/p>\n
