The Scranton Fire Department is inviting the public to an event on Friday.

Fire Chief Alexander Duff says the “Fire Department Night” has lots of family-friendly activities including a children’s firefighter obstacle course, tug of war, a temporary tattoo station, mini pools, basketball hoops and fire truck rides with pictures. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio there will also be a few of their fire trucks, along with other local first responders vehicles, large construction equipment for kids to touch and climb into.

Additionally, Duff notes that there will also be antique tractors and cars, motorcycles and other vehicles there for people to look at.

He points out that a dessert auction will be happening in the fire station meeting room, where people can put their phone numbers and can be contacted if they win. Duff explains the proceeds from the dessert auction will be used for the purchase of a thermal imaging camera. He says this equipment is vital for heat detection in low to zero visibility structures when navigating and locating anything or anyone inside of it. Duff states that thermal imaging cameras can also be used to detect any hot spots after they have initially extinguished a fire.

Duff details that the fire department will also serve a meal with a choice of a smash burger, cheddar pork burger or hotdog with chips, baked beans and a drink for $10. He believes that having an event like this allows the public to engage with the firefighters and learn more about them as well as the firefighters getting to know their community and surrounding communities.

He adds that all activities will be on Main Street in Scranton starting at 5pm on Friday and the dessert auction closes at 7pm.
