Ambler, Pa — 16-year-old Chase Merriweather, a quadruple amputee, found his calling as an athlete after a life-changing illness.<\/p>\n
When he was 3 years old, Merriweather went into septic shock. It’s believed he contracted an aggressive strain of the flu.<\/p>\n
His recovery process required the amputation of both his arms and both his legs.<\/p>\n
Merriweather had to learn how to adapt to every aspect of life all over again. But it never stopped him from pursuing sports such as swimming, soccer, and basketball.<\/p>\n
But it was the sport of track and field where he found his calling.<\/p>\n
Now a student athlete at Wissahickon High School, he shines as an inspiration on and off the race track.<\/p>\n
