A Philadelphia community activist accused of stabbing another woman during a fight on a SEPTA train says she was acting in self-defense.<\/p>\n
On July 17, at 9:18 p.m., Rosalind “Roz” Pichardo, 48, was involved in a fight with another woman on an eastbound Market-Frankford Line train at the 8th Street Station, according to SEPTA police. During the fight, the other woman suffered lacerations to her face while Pichardo was also injured, investigators said.<\/p>\n
Pichardo was arrested and transported to the hospital. The other woman was taken to another hospital for treatment. Police have not revealed what led to the fight.<\/p>\n
Pichardo was charged with aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime with intent, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment, and disorderly conduct. She was released after posting bail on July 22 and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 6, 2026. <\/p>\n
NBC10 reached out to Pichardo on Thursday, July 23. She said she acted in self-defense after she was being harassed on the train but did not go into further detail on the record. NBC10 also reached out to Pichardo’s lawyer who said they had no comment. <\/p>\n
The fight was captured on video, according to officials. When NBC10 asked for the footage, a SEPTA spokesperson said they could not release it since it\u2019s now evidence in an active criminal case.<\/p>\n
Pichardo is a prominent community activist in Philadelphia\u2019s Kensington neighborhood.
