PITTSTON, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) \u2014 Two redevelopment projects in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties will receive a combined $1 million in state funding to transform a vacant Pittston property and upgrade PNC Field to meet new Major League Baseball standards.<\/p>\n
State Rep. Jim Haddock, D-Luzerne\/Lackawanna, announced Thursday that the projects were awarded grants through Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).<\/p>\n
The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Pittston will receive $500,000 to renovate the former Pittston Lumber Co. property at 234 N. Main St.<\/p>\n
The two-story building, which once served as office and storage space for the lumber company, has sat vacant since the business closed several years ago. Plans call for a complete renovation to convert the structure into a restaurant and event venue.<\/p>\n
The project also includes construction of a parking area and other outdoor improvements that could accommodate food vendors and additional public gathering space.<\/p>\n
A second $500,000 grant will fund improvements at PNC Field in Moosic, home of the Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.<\/p>\n
The Multi-Purpose Stadium Authority of Lackawanna County will use the funding to renovate the home and visiting team clubhouses and develop a new umpire area to bring the stadium into compliance with updated Major League Baseball facility standards.<\/p>\n
“I work hard for the communities that I represent in Harrisburg, and my office is in regular contact with local officials and business leaders to determine how we can best leverage state grant programs to improve community assets,” Haddock said in a statement. “It’s always a pleasure working with Gov. Josh Shapiro and his administration, along with state Sen. Marty Flynn, on getting state funding returned to our area.”<\/p>\n
The grants are part of the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which helps fund projects that promote economic development, create or retain jobs, improve public facilities and strengthen local communities when funding is not available through other state programs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"PITTSTON, LUZERNE CO.
