READING, Pa. \u2013 Investigators say 39-year-old Adalberto Acevedo Jr. is the man at the center of a major drug and firearms investigation in Exeter Township.<\/p>\n
Court documents show detectives served a search warrant at his home on Overlook Drive Wednesday. Berks County District Attorney John Adams says what they found inside was alarming.<\/p>\n
“Approximately 4 pounds of marijuana, 60 grams of cocaine, total estimated street value of about $16,500 worth of drugs,” Adams said. “There were a lot of drug paraphernalia, scales, drug residue, packaging materials, assorted ammunition and firearm magazines\u2026over $37,000 of U.S. currency, which we believe are the proceeds of illegal drug sales.”<\/p>\n
Detectives say the drugs weren’t the only problem.<\/p>\n
“He is a felon, so he is ineligible to possess a firearm, yet we found within his household 15 firearms,” Adams said. “Many of them were the AK-47 type, and we found a number of handguns, and that’s a lethal combination.”<\/p>\n
Court documents say Acevedo has a previous felony drug conviction. Now investigators are trying to answer another question: Who bought those guns?<\/p>\n
“Someone purchased those guns for him,” Adams said. “We would call that a straw purchaser, and that straw purchaser themselves may be facing significant exposure and jail time.”<\/p>\n
Acevedo is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of firearms.<\/p>\n
