Pennsylvania police officer charged after inappropriate conduct while on duty, troopers say<\/p>\n

A Pennsylvania officer was charged after having inappropriate and unlawful conduct with a woman in Cambria County, according to state police. <\/p>\n

Authorities said Walter Maul Jr., 36, was charged on Wednesday, July 22, with misdemeanor counts of official oppression and false imprisonment, along with summary counts of harassment and disorderly conduct. <\/p>\n

Months-long investigation <\/p>\n

Troopers said the criminal investigation was opened May 19 at the request of the Cambria Township Police Department involving alleged actions by Maul while he was on duty and employed by the department. <\/p>\n

According to state police, Maul, while on duty and in full uniform, went to the apartment of a woman acquaintance in Ebensburg Borough around 8:30 p.m. on May 16. <\/p>\n

‘Inappropriate and unlawful conduct’ <\/p>\n

Investigators said Maul and the woman had exchanged messages earlier that day. According to state police, Maul removed his body-worn camera and left it in his patrol vehicle before arriving at the apartment that evening. <\/p>\n

Once inside, police said Maul engaged in inappropriate and unlawful conduct with the woman, including handcuffing her. <\/p>\n

According to authorities, Maul was later interviewed, and charges were approved by the Cambria County District Attorney’s Office. <\/p>\n

The status of Maul’s employment with the police department is unknown. <\/p>\n
