An 18-year-old woman was killed and five other teens have been hospitalized after, police said, a vehicle crashed as it exited I-95 onto Columbus Boulevard in South Philly early Friday.<\/p>\n
According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened at about 1 a.m., when a Nissan Maxima headed southbound on I-95 moved to exit at the off-ramp for Washington Avenue and Columbus Boulevard.<\/p>\n
At that time, Small said, the driver struck a curb, causing the vehicle to go airborne before landing on its passenger side along the 700 block of South Christopher Columbus Boulevard. <\/p>\n
Six people were in the vehicle, all of them teenagers, police said in a morning update. <\/p>\n
As a result of the crash, Small said, an 18-year-old woman, who was believed to have been sitting in the backseat of the vehicle, was killed while another 18-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition. <\/p>\n
The woman who died, Small said, was taken to a nearby hospital after the crash and was pronounced at about 1:46 a.m.<\/p>\n
Small said the driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital in stable condition.<\/p>\n
Another 17-year-old girl, who was also in the backseat, police said, was hospitalized in critical condition while two 17-year-old boys were taken to the hospital, as well. These boys were listed in stable condition, police said.<\/p>\n
Small said that investigators were working to determine if drugs and\/or alcohol were a factor in this crash.<\/p>\n
Also, Small said, police were reviewing surveillance footage from the scene to learn more as an investigation into this crash was ongoing.<\/p>\n
