This policy allows elected officials like the county sheriff to adopt their own supplemental procedures.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was made after an audit showed 365 county vehicles couldn&#8217;t be located or verified, and there was also widespread noncompliance with take-home vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The audit came after D.J. Granville, the chief of narcotics and intelligence for the Erie County Sheriff&#8217;s Office, <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/nys\/buffalo\/news\/2026\/03\/04\/dj-granville-to-retire-at-end-of-month\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">crashed a county-owned truck<\/a> into several parked cars in 2024, causing nearly $60,000 in damage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Granville pleaded guilty to reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash and was later sentenced to 50 hours of community service and a $550 fine. In January, <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/product-pages\/nyc\/news\/2026\/01\/05\/granville-agrees-to-pay-restitution-to-erie-county\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he agreed to pay $75,000 in restitution<\/a> to Erie County.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Erie County officials say new policies are being put in place to regulate its fleet of vehicles.
