READING, Pa. \u2013 A longstanding, family-run dining establishment is bidding farewell in Berks County.<\/p>\n
Lang Restaurant, a full-service restaurant serving authentic Vietnamese cuisine, will hold its final day of service on Aug. 30 at 22 N. Sixth St. in Reading, according to an announcement on the business\u2019s Facebook page.<\/p>\n
The restaurant has been a dining staple in Berks County for 40 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen our family first opened at our original location on 10th and Chestnut streets, with 10 tables back in 1985, we had a simple dream: to share our love of our family’s and culture’s food and create a warm and unique gathering place for everyone who walked through our doors,\u201d the Huynh family and Lang Restaurant team stated in the announcement.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we didn’t fully realize back then was just how deeply you all would become a part of our family. Over the years, we\u2019ve had the privilege of witnessing first dates that turned into anniversaries and growing families. Generations of regulars who grew up coming here every week. Laughter, celebrations, and quiet moments over thousands of shared meals,\u201d the announcement says.<\/p>\n
The closing announcement follows the March death of chef-owner Lang Huynh, who, along with his wife, Muoi Vuong, established the restaurant \u2013 originally known as Hong Thanh \u2013 in March 1986 at 10th and Chestnut streets in Reading.<\/p>\n
The restaurant operated at a few other locations over the years.<\/p>\n
In 2002, it moved to Sixth and Court streets in Reading before relocating to the Broadcasting Square in Spring Township in 2012 and moving back to Sixth and Court streets in 2017.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile closing this chapter is deeply bittersweet, we choose to look back on this journey with immense joy and gratitude,\u201d the closing announcement continues.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know Huong and Lang are looking down at us with great pride as we come to the close of this era. We are endlessly thankful to our hard-working staff \u2014 past and present \u2014 who poured their hearts into making this place special every single day, and to you, our patrons, for making our dream possible for so long.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lang Restaurant serves a wide array of Vietnamese specialties, including appetizers such as shrimp and vegetarian summer rolls, green papaya and shrimp salad, and various dumplings; and soups such as beef rice noodle, chicken rice noodle, and wonton.<\/p>\n
Guests can also enjoy special dishes such as Lang\u2019s marinated duck, sauteed chicken with lemongrass, sauteed shrimp with French butter, twice-cooked Cornish hen with house special butter rice, sliced filet mignon sauteed with garlic over watercress salad, and chicken or pork stir-fried with savory curry-coconut sauce and<\/p>\n
Other menu highlights include a variety of soups, lo mein selections, fried rice specialties, and rice vermicelli noodle bowls.<\/p>\n
There are also desserts such as Vietnamese-style banana cake, Vietnamese cassava cake, bourbon pecan bread pudding, and taro rice pudding with coconut cream.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would love nothing more than to see as many of your familiar faces as possible before we close our doors for the last time,\u201d the closing announcement continues.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026 Thank you for every meal, every conversation, and every memory.
