Cognetti keeps Scranton safe<\/p>\n
Editor: I\u2019m writing in response to a recent letter accusing Paige Cognetti of a \u201ctroubling firearm stance\u201d that it claims \u201cshould concern anyone who believes in the Constitution, public safety and the fundamental rights of law-abiding Americans\u201d (July 17).<\/p>\n
As a former Scranton police officer for over 27 years, I think I can speak on public safety and the law. And as a long-time and current resident of Scranton, I feel very safe with our current police administrators and Paige Cognetti as mayor. For the past six years I have observed Paige Cognetti completely turn our city around. The Scranton police department has been very commendable and courageous in its duty to keep Scranton safe, and Paige Cognetti has supported their efforts 100%. The men and women of the Scranton department are everywhere in our community responding promptly and professionally to the calls from citizens and Mayor Cognetti has made some of the most significant public safety investments in decades, investing more than $5 million in police training, recruitment, and technology.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s absurd to think that these are actions of someone who is looking to disarm the police or who would \u201cput both officers and innocent residents at greater risk.\u201d That is someone who has prioritized public safety time and again.<\/p>\n
These attacks are not grounded in any real concern \u2014 they\u2019re fearmongering and misinformation. They are designed to sensationalize concerns and distract voters from their serious concerns about Congressman Rob Bresnahan\u2019s failed leadership in Washington.<\/p>\n
We have seen Mayor Cognetti invest in our community \u2014 including and especially our police force \u2014 over the last seven years. Rob Bresnahan has only invested in himself. That\u2019s why this retired cop and gun owner is backing Paige in November.<\/p>\n
