Birds and Brew event returns to Hawks Mountain<\/p>\n
The highly popular Birds and Brew conservation fundraiser will return to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Saturday, Aug. 8, from 5-8 p.m. There are unlimited beverage samples from regional breweries and wineries, live music by the band Six to Midnight, a buffet, and live raptors.<\/p>\n
Ticket prices are $67.30 for general admission and $36.70 for designated drivers or those younger than 21. Ticket prices will increase after July 31.<\/p>\n
Piping plover returns after 60 years<\/p>\n
Absent from Pennsylvania for over 60 years, the federal and state endangered piping plover, a small shorebird, has made a comeback at Presque Isle State Park in Erie. Federal, state and local officials came together at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center in Erie for \u201cPennsylvania Piping Plover Fest,\u201d a celebration of the shorebird\u2019s 10 consecutive years of nesting in the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n
The Presque Isle shoreline is the only breeding habitat for the piping plover in Pennsylvania, however, increased recreational activity throughout the years endangered camouflaged eggs in shallow depressions in the sand. Piping Plovers eventually abandoned Presque Isle by the mid-1950s,\u00a0like many other nesting sites throughout the Great Lakes.<\/p>\n
