SAQUON BARKLEY – Much was made of the Eagles\u2019 offensive fall-off last season. One of the lesser-discussed aspects was the explosive plays from Barkley drying up. It\u2019s natural to see some regression following a 2,000-yard campaign, but Barkley lost 1.7 yards per carry from his 5.8 mark in 2024, plummeting to 4.1 in \u201825. The RB had just four runs of 20-plus yards — the same number as Jaxson Dart<\/a> and Marcus Mariota<\/a>. With the offensive line returning healthier than a year ago, I\u2019m sure we will see a more explosive Barkley. Not a ton is known about new OC Sean Mannion\u2019s plans, but if he takes anything from his former boss in Green Bay, we\u2019d expect Philly to lean on the ground game — Matt LaFleur\u2019s team ran the ball on the fifth-highest percentage of plays last season.<\/p>\n

As a fan you could wake up in the morning in August and on a whim just drive to WC and literally sit on the grass and watch them practice 50 feet away, it was unreal when compared to the locked down training camps of today. You could get autographs, take pics, or simply talk (good luck getting through the crowds around players like Reggie, Randall, etc though). Absolutely surreal. <\/p>\n I never went to Lehigh but as a yute we made the trek to WC for several years between 90 (last year of Buddy-ball) – 93, great times. Change has been afoot for everyone with Sean Mannion joining the team as the new Offensive Coordinator. Mannion has worked in offenses that utilize the quarterback under center in many packages, something that affects the running back position. To prepare for the potential change, Saquon Barkley has been talking to former NFL running back Todd Gurley. Every offseason, Barkley studies film of running backs across the league to see what he can add to his game. Growing up as a fan of the two-time All-Pro, Barkley decided to reach out to Gurley personally to learn more about the way he attacked NFL defenses. \u201cUnder center, you can see it a little clear. You\u2019re not blinded,\u201d Barkley said after a June minicamp practice. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of unique things you can do \u2026 look forward to doing that. Probably be the most I\u2019ve ever done it under center.\u201d<\/p>\n
Saquon Barkley, RB: He chose Philadelphia in 2024 partly because of its storied offensive line and subsequently broke the NFL\u2019s full-season rushing record en route to a Super Bowl title. Can he experience a similar multiplier season within an overhauled system that will use more wide-zone concepts?<\/p>\n
Which is where the trade for former Packers receiver Dontayvion Wicks comes in. Last season, the 6\u20191\u201d, 206-pound Wicks caught 30 passes on 44 targets for 332 yards and two touchdowns. Calf and ankle injuries, as well as concussion issues, limited his time on the field in 2025, which is why he wasn\u2019t able to replicate his 2024 production, when he caught 41 passes on 80 targets for 454 yards and five touchdowns. Still, when your yards per catch stays exactly the same from one season to the next (11.1), and your catch rate increases from 51.3% to 68.2%, that\u2019s a good thing. \u201cMe and Sean built a relationship, just like [with] Coach Mahaffey,\u201d Wicks said of his new home with Mannion and former Green Bay receivers coach Ryan Mahaffey. \u201cRelationships play a big part in things, so I felt like that was a big part of the reason [for] the trust for me to be here and for them to bank on me.\u201d Howie Roseman explained why Wicks was a consideration before the Brown trade even happened, and why the Eagles gave him a one-year, $10.5 million contract extension with a max value of $12.5 million. \u201dYou see his skill set,\u201d Roseman said of Wicks. \u201cHe is a physical, explosive player at the top of routes. He can play inside or out, so he is a guy we had our eye on.\u201d Sirianni has admired Wicks\u2019 abilities to a similar degree.<\/p>\n
2) Eagles (Chris Kuper). LT Jordan Mailata, LG Landon Dickerson, C Cam Jurgens, RG Tyler Steen, RT Lane Johnson. Unit Profile: Elite bookend-driven unit with rare tackle play, high-end left-side power, and enough center stability to offset the clear RG weak link. Notes: The Eagles had a tumultuous 2025 season due to injuries to Landon Dickerson, who played through a preseason knee injury all year, and Lane Johnson, who missed the final eight games with a Lisfranc injury, along with schematic issues that contributed to the retirement of legendary OL coach Jeff Stoutland. This remains a star-studded line built around an elite tackle duo, including the best pass-protecting tackle in football in Johnson, whose timing, positioning, and one-on-one dominance still separate him from the field. Jordan Mailata remains a high-quality starter with rare run-game impact, while Cam Jurgens gives the unit a solid center with rebound potential if his health returns closer to the baseline. Dickerson is still an elite guard when healthy and, at minimum, a stout, powerful presence on the left side. That core gives Philadelphia enough top-end quality to mask the unit\u2019s weak link, Tyler Steen, whose first full year as a starter showed serviceable run-game play but clear pass-protection limitations. With all five starters returning and a Shanahan-esque structure built on under-center play-action and the zone run game, the unit should have more built-in pass-protection help than ever before. The starting five is more fragile than in recent years due to wear and tear, but the talent remains among the league\u2019s best. Markel Bell was drafted to compete with Fred Johnson at swing tackle, while Drew Kendall headlines the competition for the swing interior role.<\/p>\n
Drew Kendall \u2013 Has a chance to be top backup at C\/G. Good athlete with solid size at 6-4, 308. Didn\u2019t play much as a rookie, but started the season finale and showed good potential. He does a good job with snaps so he can play C or G. He is quick off the ball and plays with good leverage. Good feet. Moves well and can block on the move. Biggest storyline: How will Jalen Hurts fare in the reimagined offense? Sean Mannion, the 34-year-old former QB coach of the Green Bay Packers, is implementing a scheme expected to feature more under center, motion and throws over the middle, elements the offense hasn\u2019t leaned heavily into with Hurts as its signal-caller. Hurts appears to have bought into both Mannion and the changes so far, but, as the spring practices revealed, there are going to be some stumbles as the unit works through the learning curve. It is clear the front office wants to move the attack in a more modern and imaginative direction. Whether Hurts\u2019 skill set and Mannion\u2019s vision align is the single biggest question facing an Eagles team trying to round back into championship form following a wild-card exit in 2025.<\/p>\n
Tank Bigsby is a hustler. Sirianni: \u201cI told the story about Franco Harris that Tony Dungy told us \u2014 and I said this our first year \u2014 he was always running to the ball. So basically, what Dungy said was like the act in itself that he caught the \u2018Immaculate Reception,\u2019 that may have been lucky. But his habit of being around the football and being there at the right place at the right time was not unlucky because that\u2019s who he was, his habits. Well, now I\u2019m thinking about that, and it\u2019s like, well, that\u2019s Tank Bigsby, he is constantly running to the football, he is constantly doing everything he\u2019s supposed to do.\u201d #JimmySays: This was part of a much longer answer about Nick\u2019s use of ChatGPT. DT Uar Bernard: There\u2019s not a better story in Eagles training camp this summer than Bernard. The seventh-round pick out of the NFL\u2019s International Player Pathway program had never played football before coming to the United States from his native Nigeria. He faces an uphill battle to learn a new sport but his freakish athleticism makes him a ball of clay for defensive line coach Clint Hurtt to mold. The Eagles did it once with Jordan Mailata. Can they do it again?<\/p>\n
Sources say the men spearheading the football side of the organization didn\u2019t like Halaby\u2019s presentation for the most part, perhaps confusing self-confidence with a lack of humility. That impacted relationships. The personnel side was the opposite. Roseman obviously valued Halaby greatly as he climbed the ladder to assistant GM, and owner Jeffrey Lurie was also firmly in Halaby\u2019s corner. Multiple NFL sources confirmed that Sirianni had a much better relationship with Halaby than his predecessors. Last season, though, when Sirianni\u2019s availability was impacted by taking on a larger role in the weeds with a struggling offense, his time became more limited and ancillary issues had to be put to the side. Since being promoted to assistant GM in 2022, Halaby was able to generate several GM interviews, including discussions with Washington, Carolina, the New York Jets and Miami but never crossed the finish line.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s fitting to see Sam Mills\u2019 face on the cover of a book, seeing as he was the personification of the saying \u201cdon\u2019t judge a book by its cover.\u201d Mills, the Pro Football Hall of Fame member and Long Branch, N.J., native who began his pro career with the USFL Philadelphia Stars, is the subject of a new biography written by former Inquirer and Daily News columnist Paul Domowitch. Which NFL player\u2019s legacy would benefit the most from winning a Super Bowl in 2026? RJ: I\u2019m admittedly very biased here, but my answer is easily Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Someday the Cowboys are going to win the Super Bowl again. We may all be gone, but it is going to come together inevitably. I\u2019ve long said that whoever is most responsible for getting the team back there, in essence the quarterback, is going to be treated differently than most Super Bowl-winning people of that variety given the spotlight surrounding the Cowboys. If Dak can truly be The One who delivers The Ring back to Mordor then he will become invincible from a legacy standpoint. He easily has the most to gain because he has it all.<\/p>\n
The Cowboys don\u2019t have an offensive line problem. They have an edge protection problem. The data from 2025 makes that distinction surprisingly clear. While both tackle spots allowed well above-average pressure, Dallas\u2019 three interior starters quietly performed at or above the NFL average.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t think all the questions about the cornerback room are settled. I don\u2019t think we know if Trey Amos is fully healthy. I don\u2019t think we know whether Rasul Douglas was signed in the expectation of him starting or simply providing depth. I don\u2019t think we know whether Mike Sainristil will end up as a starter or a backup, or whether he will align primarily as a wide corner or slot defender. In a manner similar to the increased use of tight ends on offense, the expected increase in three-safety looks on defense this season could lead to more alignments with only two 2 cornerbacks on the field instead of traditional nickel schemes. I have chosen, in the chart below, to assume that Amos will be healthy, that Douglas will be the primary CB on the opposite side, and that Sainristil will be the primary backup at both slot and out wide. I have listed him behind Amik Robertson on the chart.<\/p>\n
Wide receiver Malik Nabers (knee) is not expected to start training camp on the PUP list, per a report from Jordan Raanan of ESPN. That is much-needed good news for the New York Giants. As we well know, Nabers suffered a torn ACL with additional meniscus damage in the Giants Week 4 win against the Los Angeles Chargers a year ago. In addition to the surgery to repair his torn ACL, Nabers also needed to have his meniscus repaired. He also had a cleanup surgery earlier in the off-season, which raised questions as to his readiness for the 2026 season \u2014 let alone training camp.<\/p>\n
