Philadelphia police have confirmed that an off-duty officer is the suspect in a homicide under investigation in Northampton County.<\/p>\n
The shooting happened shortly before 2 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Old Gate Road in Allen Township.<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania State Police said troopers were called to a home for a reported domestic incident. At the scene, they found a 27-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds and were told the suspected shooter had fled.<\/p>\n
Authorities said troopers later located the suspect’s vehicle in nearby Hanover Township. When they attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly sped away.<\/p>\n
According to investigators, the suspect eventually returned to the scene, where troopers took him into custody.<\/p>\n
We’re told charges are pending by the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office.<\/p>\n
Philadelphia police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Officer Kenroy Cummings.<\/p>\n
The department says the internal affairs bureau is conducting an administrative investigation, but directed questions about the shooting to state police.<\/p>\n
Sources say the victim and suspect are related.<\/p>\n
Action News has learned Cummings patrols Kensington in the 24th police district.<\/p>\n
The Lehigh County Coroner’s office says out of respect for the family’s privacy, the victim’s identity will not be released until after the autopsy.
