“I woke up at 5 and she’s like, babe, ‘what is that smell?’ and she’s like ‘wait what’s that sound,'” Simone said.

It was a sound and a smell that jolted Simone into action.

“We heard his smoke alarms going off through his baby monitor because his room is closet to where the fire started… she woke me up, I realized the smoke alarms were going off, ran out of my room, realized in a second our entire sunroom was engulfed in flames,” Simone said.

After being unable to put the fire out, Simone knew he needed to get his family out of the house.

“I ran into his room, I grabbed him out of bed, shoved his head in my chest and ran through the house and back into our room,” Simone said.

Needing to rely on the good will of his neighbors to help get his family to safety.

“They thought we were sleeping still, they were like yelling outside, like our window yelling at us to like get out of the house, and we like busted that window out, I handed him through first, and then she went through, and I just remember looking at him and seeing the most terror I’ve ever seen on a grown man’s face and I realized after because we was watching the flames come in the room,” Simone said.
