Almost every Berks County resident is seeing a school property tax increase this summer.<\/p>\n

Seventeen of the 18 school districts in the county have raised their property taxes for the 2026-27 budget year. Districts were required to set their rates as part of their annual budgets, which had to be approved by July 1.<\/p>\n

The tax rate increases range from 1.9% to 4.9%.<\/p>\n

The largest is in the Antietam School District, which hiked taxes by 4.9%. The second largest increase is for Muhlenberg (4.6%), followed by Gov. Mifflin (4.5%).<\/p>\n

The highest school tax rate in Berks continues to be in Antietam at 53.8 mills. The second highest rate is in Muhlenberg (40.156 mills) and third is Exeter (38.2975 mills).<\/p>\n

The lowest rate in the county is Reading, which approved a rate of 18.29 mills. The second lowest rate is Tulpehocken (25.7 mills) and the third lowest is Hamburg (27.9 mills).<\/p>\n

Tulpehocken was the lone district not to raise taxes, instead moving in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n

For the ninth time in the past 10 years, Tulpehocken lowered its property tax rate. This time it decreased the rate by 0.2%.<\/p>\n

Millage rates can be a bit deceiving because property values differ from district to district. Higher millage rates don\u2019t necessarily mean higher tax bills for owners of similar homes in different districts.
