Philadelphia Eagles \u2014 How will Jalen Hurts play in a new offensive scheme? Even after trading away receiver A.J. Brown, Philadelphia still has one of the league\u2019s best rosters, along with a quarterback-friendly environment for Jalen Hurts. The Eagles offense will look different in 2026 under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, who has previously coached under Sean McVay and Matt LaFleur. Expect more run plays from under center and a more consistent play-action passing game. Ideally, Hurts will be trusted to work through his progressions and throw into the middle of the field. The pressure is on for Hurts to have his best year yet. That starts in training camp, where we\u2019ll get the first legitimate look at how he is able to handle the new scheme.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve played with (Smith) since I was 17, 18 years old, so that\u2019s something to consider when you think about chemistry and the foundation of where we come from,\u201d Hurts said. \u201cHaving his presence has always been very valuable, I\u2019ve always appreciated that and I think as he leads and as I lead, it\u2019s just about putting those things together and continuing to improve given all the change that we have in front of us.\u201d For Hurts, comfort comes with repetition. There has been a lot of work this offseason in implementing the new offensive scheme in the film room and meetings. While players were able to get their first taste of the system during OTAs and minicamp, the real test will come in Training Camp. \u201cThought it was a really good spring, being able to onboard another new system and put everything together, lay the foundation,\u201d Hurts said. \u201cI\u2019m encouraged by the work that we were able to put in. We\u2019ve got a fun summer ahead of us, and it\u2019ll be a fun training camp.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jalen Hurts is one of the most perplexingly great players in the NFL and, perhaps, Eagles history. He has won a Super Bowl, played in two of them, and was the best player on the field in both. He is 56-22 in the regular season as a starter. He has been to three Pro Bowls and was MVP runner-up in 2022. And yet, the football world, including all of us in Philadelphia, don\u2019t quite seem to able to put our finger on just how good he is.<\/p>\n
2) Is there actually a camp battle for the QB2 spot? Tanner McKee has quietly gone about his business as a backup quarterback for the Eagles for three full years, diligently preparing as if he\u2019s the starter. And when he has gotten his opportunities \u2014 with the exception of one game last season during which he played with the second-team offensive line and backups at the skill positions \u2014 he has mostly looked the part of a player who could earn a starting job at some point, even if with another team. And yet, despite his continued progression as a pro quarterback, he was competing for the QB2 job this spring with a 38-year-old Andy Dalton, who the team acquired via a mere seventh-round pick this offseason. Weird. McKee pretty clearly outplayed Dalton during the spring, at least during the media-attended practices, but it\u2019s interesting that the team felt that he should have to earn the QB2 spot, which in my opinion, he already has the last three-plus years.<\/p>\n
DeVonta Smith is poised to have a big year for the Eagles. He\u2019s been really good over the first five years of his career, averaging 82-1067-7. And that was sharing the ball with a workhorse like AJ Brown. Smitty should be a star this season. We know he can get the job done on deep balls. It should be fun to see Smith handle the role of featured receiver. He did that in college and won the Heisman Trophy. He can be a star.<\/p>\n
Jalen Carter, DT: A simmering story entering training camp is Carter\u2019s contract status. Are the Eagles ready to make Carter one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL? The talent and the upside warrant it. Carter can be the Defensive Player of the Year, but the Eagles would need to pay accordingly.<\/p>\n
2026 outlook: Upside is still there for Super Bowl LIX winners. We don\u2019t know exactly what we\u2019ll see on offense in Philadelphia, with Mannion in at offensive coordinator after serving as the quarterbacks coach for the Packers in 2025, A.J. Brown gone and Hurts and Saquon Barkley coming off down years. But those unknowns are why the Eagles can present betting opportunities — good or bad. Largely, I\u2019m backing Philadelphia across the board. The roster is still loaded — CB Riq Woolen and LB Jonathan Greenard were great acquisitions this offseason — so the upside is absolutely there for the Eagles to eclipse posted numbers at the books.<\/p>\n
WR Darius Cooper: Last training camp, Cooper was one of the great stories. The UDFA from Tarleton State impressed all summer to earn a roster spot. Despite a shoulder injury, Cooper still played in 13 games and had 9 catches for 92 yards. But the WR room is a bit crowded this year and Cooper is fighting for a spot.<\/p>\n
Eagles jerseys in town may be in short supply, but Nick\u2019s parents are always repping their son\u2019s team. \u201cThere\u2019s almost never a time when I see Fran and Amy Sirianni that they\u2019re not wearing Eagles gear,\u201d said Salisbury. \u201c\u2026To have somebody local do what Nick is doing, an NFL coach, and not only doing that but winning a Super Bowl is amazing, and I know that, and I know that working here at the school where Nick was a student and an athlete, we couldn\u2019t be prouder of him. \u2026We look forward to hopefully him winning some more Super Bowls. He is doing a great job in Philly.\u201d Winning more Super Bowls might mean beating the region\u2019s beloved Bills at some point. It nearly happened in 2024, the season the Eagles won it all. The Eagles upheld their end of the deal, beating the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC title game. In the AFC title game, held in Buffalo, the Bills fell 32-29 to the Chiefs; otherwise, it would\u2019ve been Eagles-Bills. Leading up to that championship Sunday, Salisbury had a conversation with his wife, Michelle, because there was a chance both teams could win that day and play in Super Bowl 59. \u201cMy wife is a big Bills fan, and I remember saying to her, \u2018You understand if this happens, I\u2019m rooting for Nick, and I\u2019m rooting for Philly,\u2019\u201d Salisbury recalled. \u201cShe said, \u2018No way, you can\u2019t do that.\u2019 It was a no-brainer for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Those naysaying the impact that LeBron James will have on the Sixers are coming off as concern trolls.<\/p>\n
The competition is especially fierce inside his wide receiver room this year. A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs were added to the top of the depth chart, while Hollins joins Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism III in competing for snaps behind them. For Hollins, the talent around him is simply more motivation.<\/p>\n
Will any Cowboys player be under the microscope more than Tyler Guyton in this year\u2019s training camp? The former first-round pick is entering Year 3 with lingering questions about his long-term viability, and even talk of his starting job being up for grabs.<\/p>\n
The Washington Commanders are set to open training camp this week, but they will be doing it without new tight ends coach Ben Steele. The team announced Monday morning that it was parting ways with Steele, and wouldn\u2019t comment further on the situation. Per Virginia court records, Steele was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated on June 7, and he faces an additional charges for refusing the field blood\/breath test, obstruction\/resisting arrest without force and changing course without a signal.<\/p>\n
The John Harbaugh \u201cThis is the New York Giants\u201d speech to his team on their first day together has drawn criticism. I think that criticism is stupid and misguided. The Giants are one of the league\u2019s iconic original franchises. They have won eight championships \u2014 four Super Bowls and four titles in the pre-Super Bowl era. Harbaugh was reminding players of what the franchise has been, of the legacy they should embrace and strive to emulate. He wasn\u2019t simply blowing rah-rah smoke. Players and assistant coaches have all lauded Harbaugh\u2019s daily messages to the team. To take one small snippet, without hearing the rest of Harbaugh\u2019s message, and twist it into something \u201ccringey\u201d or to be made fun of is nonsense.<\/p>\n
