ROBESON TWP., Pa. \u2014 Investigators revealed that the driver of a three-car crash on I-176 that killed two men and seriously injured another did not have a valid driver’s license.<\/p>\n
The crash occurred near the Green Hills exit on I-176 South in Robeson Township around 6 a.m. on Friday, according to authorities.<\/p>\n
Police say dash cam footage from the offending vehicle showed three drivers traveling southbound. According to police, 44-year-old Paul Villanueva was driving in the left lane at a high speed, approaching an Audi driven by a 21-year-old, who had two passengers in the vehicle.<\/p>\n
In an attempt to pass the Audi, Villanueva moved into the right lane at a high speed, behind a third car driven by a 64-year-old man. Police say Villanueva then accelerated and tried to move back into the left lane to pass the Audi but failed to clear both cars. He struck the rear bumper of the 64-year-old’s car and then hit the Audi.<\/p>\n
The impact sent the Audi off the road and into the median. The car became airborne, crossed to the opposite side of the road, and landed in an embankment 200 feet below the highway near Allegheny Creek, police said.<\/p>\n
The 64-year-old driver pulled off safely and was not injured.<\/p>\n
Following the investigation, police say they discovered Villanueva did not have a valid driver’s license \u2014 only a learner’s permit that had expired on June 14. When interviewed at the scene, Villanueva admitted he was going “a little too fast,” police said.<\/p>\n
The two passengers in the Audi \u2014 20-year-old Jos\u00e9 Sosa and 18-year-old Jos\u00e9 Duarte \u2014 were pronounced dead at the scene. The 21-year-old driver sustained major injuries and was extracted from the car and transported to Reading Hospital.<\/p>\n
Villanueva was taken into custody following the crash and has been charged with homicide by motor vehicle and related offenses.<\/p>\n
