SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 Water service has been restored to customers affected by Monday’s major water main break in Scranton, but a boil water advisory remains in effect as testing continues.<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania American Water said repairs to the damaged 24-inch water main were completed overnight, and water service returned to affected customers shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Repair crews began slowly pressurizing the main around 7 a.m., then fully restored service once they confirmed the repairs had no issues.<\/p>\n
As service returns, the company said some customers may experience low water pressure or temporary water discoloration. If water appears discolored, customers are advised to run cold water for several minutes to help clear the line.<\/p>\n
The boil water advisory remains in effect while Pennsylvania American Water completes required water quality testing. Customers should continue to boil water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes until the advisory is lifted.<\/p>\n
The water main break caused widespread disruptions Monday, forcing water outages, road closures and the closure of several government buildings.<\/p>\n

Scranton City Hall will open at 11 a.m.Lackawanna County government buildings, including the courthouse and Family Court Building, will also open at 11 a.m.The William J. Nealon Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse remains closed.<\/p>\n
Pennsylvania American Water said the roadway in the repair area remains closed while crews complete restoration work and ensure it is safe to reopen.<\/p>\n
