{"id":253838,"date":"2026-07-28T16:28:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T16:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/253838\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T16:28:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T16:28:09","slug":"pittsburgh-ballet-theatre-receives-1-million-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/253838\/","title":{"rendered":"Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Receives $1 Million Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe funds will allow the organization to implement its creative director\u2019s artistic vision, PBT says.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/full-ballet-class.jpg\" data-lb-width=\"1000\" data-lb-height=\"665\" class=\" photoswipe gtxlightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-344268 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/full-ballet-class.jpg\" alt=\"Full PBT Ballet Class\" width=\"1000\" height=\"665\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a0PHOTO BY AVERY JERINA<\/p>\n<p>It has been a big year for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In May, officials announced they were working on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pittsburghmagazine.com\/immersive-awe-inspiring-proud-of-pittsburgh-pittsburgh-ballet-theater-announces-a-new-iteration-of-the-nutcracker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">revamping the beloved Nutcracker<\/a> production with a debut set for December 2027; this week, the company revealed it has received $1 million in grant funding from the Mellon Foundation \u2014 some of which will support the reimagined Nutcracker and other \u201cinnovative programing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are extremely grateful for the support of the Mellon Foundation,\u201d Adam W. McKinney, PBT\u2019s artistic director, says in a statement. \u201cThe funding has enabled PBT to invest deeply in new artistic development, expand the scope of our programming and create spaces for exploration and collaboration that would not otherwise have been feasible. I am deeply thankful to them for believing in PBT and the arts in Pittsburgh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Mellon Foundation provided the arts funding grant in two parts: $500,000 in 2024 and the same amount this summer. The grants support the implementation of McKinney\u2019s artistic vision, and each covers two years of programming.<\/p>\n<p>Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre began its 2026-27 \u201cSeason of Wonder\u201d on July 27, and its 30 company artists have returned to the studio after a summer break to begin rehearsals for the free Ballet Under the Stars performance at Hartwood Acres on Aug. 23. The entire season includes:<\/p>\n<p>Giselle with the PBT Orchestra, Oct. 23-25, 2026<br \/>\nThe Nutcracker,\u00a0 Dec. 4-27, 2026\u00a0<br \/>\nAlice in\u00a0 Wonderland, Feb. 12-21, 2027<br \/>\nSpring Mix: World Premieres,\u00a0 April 9-11, 2027\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Sleeping Beauty with the PBT Orchestra, May 7-9, 2027<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pbt.org\/subscribe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Season subscriptions<\/a> are now available.
