{"id":254075,"date":"2026-07-28T21:54:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T21:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/254075\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T21:54:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T21:54:12","slug":"steel-company-ceo-59-dies-suddenly-just-weeks-after-taking-over-top-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/254075\/","title":{"rendered":"Steel company CEO, 59, dies &#8216;suddenly&#8217; just weeks after taking over top job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The newly appointed CEO of a $3 billion steel corporation died \u201csuddenly and unexpectedly,\u201d his company has announced.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Malloy, 59, died on Friday, just three weeks after he was named chief executive of Philadelphia-based Carpenter Technology Corp., the firm announced on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.71428571;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40111210\" width=\"421\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/brian-malloy-seen-undated-photograph-135775985.jpg\" alt=\"Headshot of Brian Malloy, CEO of Carpenter Technology Corp.\" class=\"wp-image-40111210\"  \/>CEO Brian Malloy, 59, has died \u201cunexpectedly and suddenly.\u201d Secoges Photographics, LLC<\/p>\n<p>No further details were given about Malloy\u2019s cause of death by the company, which designs stainless-steel alloys for the aerospace, medical, and military industries.<\/p>\n<p>Malloy was previously Chief Operating Officer at the company, and made $2.7 million, according to Salary.com. <\/p>\n<p>The former CEO, Tony Thene, was making $8.4 million in cash and stock when he had the job.<\/p>\n<p>He was scheduled to report recent financial results to Carpenter\u2019s investors at a conference call Thursday,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/business\/carpenter-technology-ceo-death-20260727.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the Philadelphia Inquirer reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That call will still go ahead on schedule, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Shares fell about 4.6% for the firm in trading Monday follow news of Molloy\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>He had only been at the helm of the company since July 1, when he took over from his predecessor Thene.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.75;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40111207\" width=\"443\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/pictured-wife-luiza-malloy-2nd-135775539.jpg\" alt=\"Brian Malloy (far left) pictured with his wife Luiza Malloy (2nd from right) and their children.\" class=\"wp-image-40111207\"  \/>He had only been in the role for three weeks. Facebook\/Luiza Puculowski Malloy<\/p>\n<p>Thene, who had led the firm since 2015, will return to his previous role \u201ceffective immediately,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are deeply saddened by Brian\u2019s passing.
