A local chaplin<\/a> has been charged with carrying a firearm after his permit had been revoked.<\/p>\n

Justin T. Cohen, 56, of 7200 block of Brent Road, Upper Darby, was charged Thursday night after a traffic stop by township police.<\/p>\n

According to the criminal complaint filed by Officer Corey Hansen:<\/p>\n

Shortly after 9 p.m., police observed a silver Honda Pilot traveling on Garrett Road with an expired registration.<\/p>\n

Police conducted a traffic stop at Clearbrook Avenue and spoke to the operator, who was identified as Cohen.<\/p>\n

During the course of the vehicle stop it was determined that Cohen\u2019s Pennsylvania concealed weapons permit was revoked.<\/p>\n

When asked, Cohen confirmed there was a firearm in the vehicle\u2019s glove compartment and allowed officers to retrieve it.<\/p>\n

Police removed a black .38 Ruger LCP containing six rounds, and secured the firearm in patrol vehicle as evidence.<\/p>\n

Police asked Cohen about his permit, and according to police, he confirmed that he did possess one. Cohen was removed from the vehicle and placed into custody.<\/p>\n

Cohen was secured inside of a patrol vehicle and transported back to police headquarters.<\/p>\n

Cohen was arraigned before District Judge Dawn L. Vann on a felony-three grade charge of firearms not to be carried without a license and a summary offense of driving an unregistered vehicle.<\/p>\n

Vann released him on $50,000 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear Nov. 7 before before District Judge Christopher R. Mattox for a preliminary hearing.<\/p>\n

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt credited the work of officers as they strive to preserve public safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Cohen\u2019s gun permit was revoked by the Sheriff\u2019s Office for good cause, citing a danger to public safety,\u201d Bernhardt said Friday. \u201cOnce again, we\u2019re faced with a situation where someone is carrying a gun illegally. Let me be clear, if you are not legally permitted to carry a firearm and choose to do so in Upper Darby, when our officers find that weapon, you will be arrested and prosecuted.\u201d<\/p>\n
